The Story So Far

The annual Keswick Convention has historically been held on two sites in Keswick. The development of the Pencil Factory site provides the opportunity to integrate our activities in one place.

The iconic art deco pencil factory building has been refurbished to provide a modern conference venue. During the Convention it will be used for meeting space for a variety of kids and youth activities and seminars. At other times of the year the new site will allow us to:

  • Expand our teaching and training programmes at other times of the year.
  • Host our children’s and young people’s work, work for those with disabilities and missions exhibition alongside our adult programme.
  • Offer training for youth workers, preachers, leaders, pastors and mission workers
  • Encourage and resource local churches in Cumbria and the North.
  • Provide a facility and accommodation for visiting Church groups and church holidays
  • Provide a venue for businesses and organisations looking for a local conference and meeting space

Raising up Generations to Come

“Something that has encouraged me is being with loads of Christians my age. It’s been encouraging to pray with each other and worshipping together, with so many young Christians passionate about God.” Anna, 15 – Keswick Convention 2022

Project progress to date

Thanks to God’s guidance and provision through Keswick Ministries supporters, we have already made significant progress through the Derwent Project:

In 2015, we purchased the Pencil Factory site.

In 2019, we were granted planning permission for refurbishment of the site.

We have made huge progress in refurbishing the Pencil Factory building, enabling increased use for ministry:

  • During Keswick Convention 2022, children’s and youth groups – along with seminars, lectures and other programme activities – took place within the Pencil Factory.
  • Throughout the rest of the year, an even greater range of Bible teaching events is being hosted within the Pencil Factory welcoming an increased number of attendees.
  • Local community groups have also started using the space and there is increasing interest from other organisations looking for venue space in the heart of the Lake District.
