The Convention has been a substantial part of my life in all seasons: growing up down the road in Cockermouth; my Mum working for the Convention for many years; meeting my wife while were both volunteering in 2002 and returning the next year married! And yet, it’s so much more: a fundamental part of my biblical understanding, a delight in gathering and fellowship with the family of God; and a knowledge of how impactful it is for our four children each year.

Serving in China, serving at home in England before that, and serving in Scotland these past few years, have deeply shown me His “plans formed of old, faithful and sure.” (Isaiah 25.1). He is trustworthy in all circumstances: for my wife, for our four children, as we all serve Him.

And growing up in the Lakes, followed by recent years in the Highlands, have only amplified my joy in seeing that the “heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

“Day to day pours out speech,
and night to night reveals knowledge.
There is no speech, nor are there words,
whose voice is not heard.” (Psalm 19.1-4)

Some difficult experiences in life have also shown me clearly that “to live is Christ, and to die is gain”. (Philippians 1.21) When Christ returns in righteousness and justice, o what a day that will be! (Revelation 19.11).
