Friends of Keswick

The loyalty card scheme, which launched in 2018, aims to promote local businesses and the local economy.

Founding members of the initiative are the Keswick Tourism Association (KTA), Keswick Ministries, who run the Keswick Convention, and Newlands Activity Centre.

David Sawday, Chief Operating Officer, said: “Each year, the Convention brings thousands of visitors to the town who form a life-long love of Keswick, and who return again and again. We want to encourage them to engage even more with local businesses and we believe Friends of Keswick will help develop and drive those relationships.”

Following its success, the scheme will run again this summer, 2019.

Throughout the summer, visitors to Keswick can participate in the Friends of Keswick loyalty card initiative as a way of supporting local businesses and giving back to the local economy. Participants get their cards stamped at a range of businesses around the town. Once they collect 10 stamps, they can claim a free Friends of Keswick badge and will be entered in a prize draw.

Window stickers will be distributed to participating businesses. Their names are displayed on the KTA website and the Keswick Ministries ‘Enjoy Keswick’ website.

Vanessa Metcalfe, KTA, talks about Friends of Keswick.

Businesses Taking Part

The Enjoy Keswick website, developed by Keswick Ministries introduces visitors to the many great restaurants, shops and other activities that can be enjoyed during your stay in Keswick.

What other local initiatives are Keswick Ministries involved in?

  • Keswick Ministries owns the Rawnsley and Pencil Factory pay and display car parks, which are administered by Allerdale Borough Council. Free car parking has been available at the car park on occasion, such as Christmas events in Keswick, in line with other Allerdale-run car parks in the town.
  • A town liaison forum, launched by Keswick Ministries, is held every quarter. It was set up to encourage more two-way communication between The Convention and the town, and to engender a greater level of connection between the town and the Conventioners. This has been a great opportunity to engage with business people and councillors, strengthen relations with the town and get feedback about The Convention. Topics discussed at the meetings include the Convention programme, latest news from Keswick Ministries, parking, security and updates on the pencil factory.
  • Keswick Ministries is the landlord of the Derwent Pencil Museum– which is situated just a stone’s throw from the former pencil factory!
  • Each year, the Mayor of Keswick attends the launch of Keswick Convention. During the three weeks of the summer event, local dignitaries are invited to the Saturday meetings and we also hold a press breakfast in Week One of the Convention for press and council members.
