Buildings and Maintenance Support job role

This exciting new role to provide Buildings and Maintenance Support will be varied, creative, and rewarding as we work on developing our Pencil Factory and Skiddaw Centre sites. 

The successful candidate will work as part of the Facilities Team. Assisting the Facilities Manager to plan improvements and develop the facilities. This will involve constructing and maintaining buildings to increase and improve facilities, maintenance of facilities to ensure safe operation and assisting the operation of facilities as required.

Additionally, there will be a requirement to assist in the preparation of site and facilities for the annual Keswick Convention.

It is important to note that there is a requirement to be flexible in regard to hours worked. It is intended that there will be on site accommodation provided to allow speedy response to maintenance / emergency issues.

The successful candidate will have:

  • High competency in practical building skills.
  • Good communication skills and organisational skills.
  • Motivation and be energetic with integrity and with the ability to work to deadlines.
  • Willingness to do the tasks necessary to provide a safe and suitable environment for guests.
  • Willingness to work as part of a wider team and learn new skills.
  • Experience working in or with building trades would be advantageous.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Reports to Facilities Manager

Job purpose:

Working as part of the Facilities Team.  Assisting the Facilities Manager to plan improvements and develop the facilities.  Constructing and maintaining buildings to increase and improve facilities.  Maintenance of facilities to ensure safe operation.  Assisting the operation of buildings as required.

Primary responsibilities of the job. 

The following are more specific but not exhaustive. It is important to note that there is a requirement to be flexible in regard to hours worked. It is intended that there will be on site accommodation provided to allow speedy response to maintenance / emergency issues.

Skiddaw Street Centre

  • Renovation / construction of new facilities to expand accommodation.
  • Refurbishment of existing accommodation to improve accommodation.
  • General maintenance of buildings and grounds as required.
  • Working with and/or directing contractors as required.
  • On a rota basis, welcome guests and make aware of safety and evacuation procedures

Rawnsley Centre

  • General maintenance of buildings and grounds as required.
  • Plan and implement any necessary refurbishment of existing facilities.

Skiddaw Street Tenants

  • Responding to issues as required.

Convention

  • Assisting Facilities team to deliver necessary facilities and infrastructure.
  • Responding to facilities issues as required.

Pencil Factory

This is a new facility being developed. Initially, minimal involvement will be required but this may increase as the use of the facility increases. Also other buildings on site will require maintenance.

General maintenance of buildings and grounds as required.

Meet contractors and hirers and give access where required.

It is expected that all staff model KM’s Values in every aspect of their work.

Salary: £16,000 – £19,000 plus on-site accommodation.
