Staff help to spruce up Keswick’s Hope Park

Hundreds of plants were given a new lease of life and fence railings were transformed at Hope Park in Keswick, thanks to Keswick Ministries staff taking part in a Volunteer Day.

The ten-strong team sanded and painted railings near the Theatre by the Lake and also re-planted primulas from the bedding areas of the park into a nearby woodland area ready for next year.

The staff were guided by Christine Fawcett, Parks Manager, parks team member Sara Pickett and volunteer Kay Pickett. Pictured is the Keswick Ministries staff with Christine (right).

David Sawday, Chief Operating Officer for Keswick Ministries, said: “The parks team does a marvellous job all year round and we were delighted to offer our help in sprucing up the park. We asked how what needed doing and they pointed to the railings which were desperate for a fresh coat of paint and the primulas that were in need of a new home after their Spring flowering. It was brilliant to spend time together out of the office doing some thing practical in the wonderful surroundings of Hope Park.”

The Volunteer Day, which was given the go-ahead by KM management and trustees, could be a permanent fixture in Keswick Ministries’ diary as the organisation looks at how it can get involved in the community of Keswick throughout the year.

Quarterly Town Liaison Forums are also held by Keswick Ministries for businesses, councillors and local authorities. They encourage more two-way communication and connection between the Convention and the town.

Work is also being carried out to launch the summer Friends of Keswick initiative. Businesses in Keswick are being contacted to see if they would like to take part in the loyalty card scheme and also feature in a free Enjoy Keswick booklet and website by Keswick Ministries. This scheme is set to go live on Saturday 13 July and will run throughout the Summer. More details about the scheme will be coming soon.
