2023 Convention | Week 2

Week Two

Saturday 22nd July – Friday 28th July

Made and re-made in Christ | Colossians

Morning Bible Reader: Johnathan Griffiths

Main Tent |  Livestream | 11:15am-12:30pm

Created: Colossians 1:15-20

Jesus Christ is preeminent in all the universe – above all things. With so many competing claims for truth and power in this world, we need to have a clear understanding of his supremacy – and we need to humbly recognize that all things in this universe were created through him and for him – not least, us human beings.

Reconciled: Colossians 1:21-23

We were a people who were hostile to God and guilty before him – and Jesus has taken us and reconciled us to God through his blood. Having received such a gracious rescue, we need to be careful to continue in the faith, unmoved by winds of false teaching.

Made alive: Colossians 2:6-15

We were once dead in our sin, and Jesus has dealt with our sin at the cross and God has made us alive with him in his resurrection. For every Christian in every age, the great challenge is to continue to walk in this new life in Christ, rooted and built up in him – not swayed or derailed by winds of false teaching.

Raised: Colossians 3:1-11

The Christian has died with Christ and been raised with Him – and that means a clean break with the old life. Our constant challenge is to live out that reality, daily putting to death the old patterns of life and setting our sights on things above.

Loved: Colossians 3:12-17

As a people deeply loved in Christ, we are brought into a new kind of community and called to a new way of relating to the people of God. These relationships are shaped by the gospel and enabled by God Himself. While churches can too often be marked by dysfunction, Paul sets out for us a framework for healthy and life-giving Christian community rooted in the love of God.
