2023 Convention | Week 1

Week One

Saturday 15th July – Friday 21st July

How we can be sure | 1 John

Morning Bible Reader: Sam Allberry

Main Tent |  Livestream | 11:15am-12:30pm

Because Christ has come: 1 John 1:1-2:2

John has written this letter so that we can know we have life, and shows us in this text that the eternal son has come, been seen and proclaimed to us all so that we can find atonement for our sins.

Because we now walk in the light: 1 John 2:3-27

John introduces us to the “tests” that can help Christians know they have genuine faith — keeping God’s commands, loving his people, and recognising his truth.

Because of how we love: 1 John 2:28-3:24

John zeroes in on what it means for us to “abide” in Jesus, and to live in the light of his future return, by turning from sin and living the new life Christ has given us.

Because we have the Spirit: 1 John 4:1-5:5

Part of our assurance comes from being able to recognise the false spirits in the world, and the evidence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, especially in how we can now perceive and understand who Jesus really is.

Because of what we believe: 1 John 5:6-21

We might think it is good to “have faith” of some sort, but John shows us that it is only genuine faith in Jesus that matters, a faith grounded in authentic truth and which changes our lives.
