28 Jul 2009: What is the key to living life?
The key to living life is how you see yourself. The secularists say there is a way to see yourself, and it is the way of the spiritual derelict. Secularism is spiritual poverty. Don’t allow your identity to be defined for you in meaningless ways. How foolish to define yourself by worldly possessions that can be carried away, by those things which will not endure. I am created, I am dependent, I am godlike, I am made for rest in relationship, I am a child of God. That is my identity. Surely one of the great books of the twentieth century is Knowing God by Jim Packer. Packer says whenever you have a spare moment in the day, keep saying these six things to yourself: ‘I am a child of God. God is my Father; heaven is my home, every day is one day nearer. My Saviour is my brother; every Christian is my brother too.’ That’s who I am!
