17 May 2010: Marriage as God intended: Ephesians 5:22-33
I want you to notice this: Christ loves us unconditionally but he loves us with an agenda. He loves us because he loves us. There’s nothing in us that draws out his love. Paul has said, ‘For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no-one can boast’ (Eph 2:8,9). There were no works that we did that drew his love. He loved us simply because he loved us, because of his grace. Christ did not make us his bride because of the good works we had done. He made us his bride because of his love and his grace. He loves us unconditionally but he loves us with an agenda, and that agenda is to make us holy and blameless. He has an agenda of change. Christ does not love us because of anything other than his grace but he does love us for something: to make us holy and radiant.
