05 May 2010: A woman finds faith – Rahab: Hebrews 11:31

Tragically, it’s not just Dalits who are abused. I appreciate I’ll be speaking to a large number in this tent who have suffered, or are suffering, abuse. It might be within the family; it might be workplace abuse; it might even, tragically, be within the church. Insecure leaders, whose identity is not in Christ but more in their job or in their title, often, without realizing it, to defend their position, become abusive leaders. You may be a casualty of that this evening. Rahab’s testimony is that faith in God can make you whole. It may be a long journey to wholeness but you can start that journey. You can walk the road which Eliphaz travelled: it may be a long road but you can start that journey. This is the picture I want to fix in your mind: of a Gentile Amorite prostitute, who is now an ancestor of our Lord Jesus Christ. It’s a picture of the mercy of God, mercy which can reach into the darkest, most hopeless corner of our lives.
